Xenon Hexafluoride Structure
Xenon hexafluoride is a chemical compound consisting of one xenon atom and six fluorine atoms, with the chemical formula XeF6. Structurally, it has an octahedral geometry, as the xenon atom is surrounded by six fluorine atoms arranged in a regular octahedron configuration. Each fluorine atom forms a covalent bond with the central xenon atom, resulting in a molecule with a total of six Xe-F bonds. The molecule is nonpolar due to its symmetric structure, which causes the electronegativity of the fluorine atoms to cancel out. Xenon hexafluoride is a powerful oxidizing agent and reacts violently with water, among other substances.
