Xenon Tetrafluoride Polar Or Non-Polar
Xenon tetrafluoride (XeF4) is a polar molecule. This is because it has a symmetrical square planar shape, with the four fluorine atoms surrounding the central xenon atom in a flat plane. The electronegativity difference between the xenon atom and each of the fluorine atoms creates dipole moments that point outward from the central xenon atom in opposite directions, cancelling each other out along the horizontal plane but creating a net dipole moment pointing upwards and downwards along the vertical axis. Therefore, XeF4 has a non-zero dipole moment, making it a polar molecule.
