Barium Stearate
Barium stearate is a white, odorless powder composed of barium and stearic acid. It is commonly used as a lubricant in the plastic and rubber industries due to its water-repellent properties and ability to reduce friction between particles. Barium stearate is also used as a heat stabilizer in PVC and other thermoplastics. It can be produced through a reaction between barium hydroxide and stearic acid, or by combining barium oxide with stearic acid under high temperatures.
In terms of safety, barium stearate is generally considered safe for use in food packaging materials, but it may cause skin irritation and eye damage upon prolonged exposure. It is important to handle barium stearate with proper protective equipment and dispose of it properly.
