Bismuth(III) Orthoniobate

Bismuth(III) orthoniobate is a compound composed of bismuth, niobium, and oxygen atoms. Its chemical formula is BiNbO4.

The crystal structure of bismuth(III) orthoniobate belongs to the orthorhombic space group Pnma. It has a three-dimensional framework composed of corner-sharing NbO6 octahedra and BiO6 distorted octahedra. The BiO6 octahedra are tilted relative to each other, resulting in a polar axis along the b-axis.

Bismuth(III) orthoniobate exhibits excellent ferroelectric properties due to its polar structure. It has been studied for various applications such as piezoelectric sensors, non-volatile memory devices, and electro-optic devices.
