Bismuth(III) Chloride

Bismuth(III) chloride is a chemical compound with the formula BiCl3. It is a yellowish-white powder that is soluble in water and alcohol. Bismuth(III) chloride is a strong oxidizing agent and reacts violently with reducing agents. It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis and as a mordant in textile dyeing. Bismuth(III) chloride has a trigonal planar molecular geometry, with the bismuth atom at the center and three chlorine atoms arranged around it. Its melting point is 227°C and its boiling point is 447°C. Bismuth(III) chloride is also known as trichlorobismuth or bismuth trichloride.
