Arsenic Diiodide
Arsenic diiodide is a chemical compound with the formula AsI2. It is a yellow solid that is insoluble in water and most organic solvents. Arsenic diiodide can be prepared by reacting arsenic trioxide with iodine, or by reacting arsenic with an excess of iodine.
In terms of its structure, arsenic diiodide adopts a layered structure, with each layer consisting of arsenic atoms that are four-coordinate and iodine atoms that are two-coordinate. The layers are held together by weak van der Waals forces.
Arsenic diiodide has some interesting properties. For example, it is a semiconductor with a band gap of approximately 1.9 eV. It is also pyroelectric, meaning that it generates an electric charge when heated or cooled.
However, arsenic diiodide is also highly toxic and should be handled with care. Exposure to arsenic compounds can lead to a variety of health problems, including skin lesions, respiratory problems, and even death.
