Xenon Hexafluoride Hybridization
Xenon hexafluoride is a chemical compound in which the xenon atom undergoes sp3d2 hybridization. This means that the xenon atom's 5p orbitals and one 5s orbital combine with two 5d orbitals to form six hybrid orbitals, which are arranged in an octahedral geometry around the central xenon atom. Each hybrid orbital contains a lone pair of electrons, while the remaining positions in the octahedron are occupied by six fluorine atoms in a symmetric arrangement. The resulting molecule has a square antiprismatic structure and belongs to the point group Oh.
