Bismuth(III) Fluoride
Bismuth(III) fluoride is a chemical compound with the formula BiF3. It is a white, crystalline solid that is insoluble in water. The compound consists of bismuth cations (Bi3+) and fluoride anions (F-), with each bismuth cation surrounded by six fluoride anions in an octahedral arrangement. Bismuth(III) fluoride has a melting point of 639 °C and a boiling point of 993 °C. It is used as a source of bismuth in the production of other compounds and as a catalyst in organic synthesis reactions. Bismuth(III) fluoride is also being investigated for potential use in high-energy density batteries and as a radiation shield in nuclear reactors.
